Q: Can I make a donation to help a child in my region?
A: Yes, if you go to the “Ways to give” section of this website you can select the type of donation you would like to make. For each option, you have the possibility of selecting the region in which you would like us to use your donation.
Q: I am a retired teacher, can I become a volunteer?
A: If volunteering with the Fondation maman Dion interests you, and you would like to join the selection committee, send your CV/resume, marked for the attention of Mrs. Liette Dion, Human Resources Department, to [email protected] or call her on 1 866 430-3466.
Q: When should I submit a request for aid?
A: For the start of the 2013/14 academic year, we are accepting aid applications between 14 January to 12 April 2013. Note! The Fondation maman Dion must receive your application form before 5pm on 12 April 2013.
Q: What does the Foundation give to the children it helps?
A: As well as educational support, the Fondation maman Dion encourages children to blossom and grow in self-confidence by supplying: essential school supplies, glasses (where necessary), and clothes for the return to school.
Q: The aid application form asks for household income. How do you define household income?
A: Household income is your family’s total earnings for the preceding year. It includes your earnings and those of your spouse, salaries, worker’s insurance and social security awards, scholarships, child support, and provincial and federal family allowances. If this amount has reduced for the current year, you must give the reason for this loss of revenue in the description of your financial and familial circumstances section of the aid application form.
Q: Can anyone benefit from the Foundation’s help?
A: No. You must be a permanent Quebec resident with a low-income. In addition, your child must be enrolled in a public primary or secondary school recognized by Quebec’s Ministry of Education (MELS). Requests from families with children in private schools or who are not low-income families will not be considered.
Q: Do you provide financial assistance towards school costs?
A: No. The Foundation does not provide financial aid towards the cost of supervised school activities or transport costs.
Q: Can I sign up to the program just to get clothing aid?
A: No. You cannot apply only to receive clothing. The Fondation maman Dion encourages education and boosts self-confidence through the supply of essential school supplies, glasses (if prescribed by an optometrist), and clothes for the return to school.
Q: If my child is selected, when will I receive money from the Foundation?
A: The Foundation does not give money to parents. If your child is selected you will receive a letter from the Fondation maman Dion that tells you the procedure to follow in order to benefit from the supplies offered by the Foundation and its partners.
Q: Can I apply for a child that’s about to start nursery?
A: No. Nursery school is pre-school level teaching and as such is not included in our aid program, which supports the education of children at the elementary and secondary level.
